I can only remember snippets of it from my childhood. It was in English and I watched it around 2004. The quality of the animation wasn’t great, but it was in a western style (a very similar style to “The Last Unicorn.”) Probably very low budget. It was a musical that I watched in my 1st grade music class so I am unaware of whether it was a direct to home film or a TV movie, but I can say with near certainty that it wasn’t released in theaters. It was in color and appeared to be from the 70s-90s era. I believe the main female character had long dark brown hair and wore a blue/purple rennessance-esque dress. I believe the main male character was blonde and wore a red rennesance-esque outfit with puffed sleeves and tights (but this could all be wrong. It has been 10 years!)
as far as I can remember there was an evil witch or queen who had locked away a girl. There was a prince who saved the girl and there was a brawl between him and the guards of the evil witch/queen’s castle during the rescue. He got the girl to safety by swinging on a chandelier that he cut down to get to the other side of the room. He then tells the girl that he had “always wanted to do that.” The two escape to safety and I believe fall in love. Somehow or another the evil queen/witch manages to trap the girl again in a cage and tells her that she has also trapped the prince. The evil woman says that if the girl will drink a certain poison/potion that will cause her to die or sleep forever (something along those lines) then the prince will be set free. I remember the girl sings a song at this point as she prepares to take a drink. Also, either trolls or fairies factor into the story somehow (especially at the beginning.) this movie is not “The Princess and the Goblin.” Not knowing the title of this movie has driven me nuts for years! I remember this movie too! I’ve been trying to figure out the title of this movie FOR YEARS! You’re probably the first person I’ve come across who remembers the same film. I remember the scene where she drinks the potion vividly. She’s in a cage on a wagon and the sorceress or queen or whatever, who if I remember is dressed mostly in black and purple with I believe a cone type hat, presents the girl in the cage with this potion in a goblet and the potion is purple. Then she sings this sad number and sees her prince’s reflection in the potion before finishing the number, drinking the potion, and keeling over. I’ve wanted so long to find this movie’s title as well.
